Advances in technology and health care research have resulted in patients living longer and requiring more care in their elder years. Increased demand for health care services has spurred the development of health care related jobs, such as medical office specialist, to provide support in medical offices nationwide. In fact, the U.S. Department of Labor predicts more new jobs will be in health care than in any other industry through 2014.*
In our Medical Office Specialist Diploma program, your training will focus on computerized medical procedures such as bookkeeping and word processing. Specific classes will provide training in:
- Computer data entry of patient information, patient files, filing systems and records, and admission and discharge forms
- Filing insurance claims for both group and private practice insurance .
- Medical coding using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) and Diagnosis Related Group (DRG).
- Transcribing physicians' instructions.
You will also receive training in emergency medical procedures, including CPR, basic first aid, treatment for shock, and taking vital signs.
When you graduate from this program, you can have the education and training required to seek entry-level positions in a medical administrative office, such as a private physician's office, clinic, hospital clerical department, or other medical facility.
